Column Width

Hello Everyone,
Is there a way to set the first column width accross multiple tables to
"stay" exactly the width for example,

I am setting my table width to 800 pixels. I want the first column to be
200 pixels. And, I would like to implement this across multiple tables and
keep the first column "lined up vertically" on all of the tables.

TIA

Sure, just do what you're doing but don't put anything bigger than 199px in that column. You'd be better setting the table to 750-760 px to allow for browser chrome. Also, don't manually drag column width or the table will get wacked out.

Thanks for the idea on the browser chrome. I also found out a tid bit on ms
web site about using transparent GIF to keep the column to the desired size.

Welcome.
Yep the ol' transparent gif trick...it will keep your columns from collapsing.

A transparent GIF image is used to control the size of cell, by setting the image size to whatever
size you want the empty cell to be/keep.

Does this pertain if you have a fixed Table width of...let's say 740px? Or
by fixing the table width you don't need this trick?

Generally correct on both points.
There are circumstances where a fixed width table can use a spacer
..gif to set a minimum column width, that is when the content in one
column exceeds the designated width for that column, or the columns
have no widths set at all. Spacers may also be needed to set minimum
row heights.
