I hope this is possible to do, if it is I don't know how to do it.
have text at top of column A and I have more below. So it all lines u
correctly, I need the top of column A to be wider than other parts. I
this is possible to do, please let me know. Also If there is anothe
option, please let me know. Thanks in advance

jmurrrda,

What I'd do, is to first of all avoid merging cells.

If there is data in column B, insert a column between A and B

Select the "top of column A", and include the cell in column B

Right click, format cells, alignment, horziontal, find "center across
selection", OK

Resize column B until text is where you need it

Basically, I have data at the top of my page a1 to a3 to c1 to c3. All
of that is lined up exactly the way I want it. Then further on down the
page i have data. To line that data up the way I want it, I'm going to
have to change the column width in A,B,C. I need to be able to change
the column width without messing up the data at the top.

You can adjust the width of each column independently, but that width
is then fixed for the whole of the column - you cannot have a different
width part way down the column.

Hope this helps.

jmurrrda,

You don't explain exactly how you want to align the data very well, (at
least to me), so this may not be what you want.

You can apply an indent to off set text, (or numbers if Left-align
formatting has already been applied). Try: Format > Cells > Alighment >
Horizontal > Left (indent)
