Column headers numbers instead of letters

Hursh

someone sent me an excel file with the columns labeled as numbers instead of
letters, so cell A1 shows up as R1C1. Now every file I open has this format.
Can someone please help me change it back to normal?

In Excel 2007:

Office button>Excel Options>Formulas>Working with formulas>uncheck R1C1
reference style>OK out

Other versions of Excel:

Tools>Options>General tab>Settings>uncheck R1C1 reference style>OK out

Hi,

Excel remembers the first file you open in a session and keeps that
reference method.

Tools|options - general tab and un-check R1C1
