Codecs problem

When I try to import a movie file (mpeg) I get this message: mpg cannot be
imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your
computer. I downloaded codecs from Microsoft, 6.4, 7.1 and 9 VCM. I also
downloaded Cineplayer DVD decoder. Why do I keep getting the same message.
Is there something else I need to do?

seevral of us are having the same problem and I am surprised NO ONE has been
able to answer this.
Movie maker was doing conversions just fine beofere this SP2 crap :)
