cmos battery (continued)

philo

the other day i posted concerning a machine
that booted up ok...but would then shut down in about ten minutes

(even with no harddrive...just sitting there idling)

after exhausting all other possibilites...it worked fine after replacing
a low (1.7 v) cmos battery

well i had another board in my junk pile that had the same symptoms
(but i could not bear to throw it out)
well...the cmos battery was also around 1.7 v and when i put in a new one
it works fine now

so i guess i;ve learned something

I would say you have learned not to discard old mainboards until you have conducted a battery of tests.
