Cmd.exe

Cmd.exe runs approximately at every 10 seconds on my
computer (Compaq Armada E500)...I want to disable this...

is it possible that there is a virus? or is it a scheduled
task? The problem has started to appear after I have
removed the DVD player and plugged CD-Writer.
Thanks

(other post): "I want to disable CMD.exe"

Well, I don't think you really want to disable cmd.exe. If the
problem is something starting or using cmd.exe then that's what needs
to be found and explained (or disabled/removed/killed).

You don't say your OS. Have you used a startup tool or manual
inpection to review all the startup locations (Startup folders and
registry keys) for somethin unexpected? You need to. In XP
msconfig.exe will do. In W2K a XP msconfig.exe can be downloaded or
there are many other Startup Managers available.

If it's a Scheduled Task you should see it in the Scheduled Tasks in
the Control Panel.

Virus? Possibly. You have your A-V updated? Ran an on-line scan
from another vendor? Ran a Anti-Trojan scan? ...

"removed the DVD player and plugged CD-Writer" This may be the clue
perhaps. Something left over?
