cmd.com runs instead of com.exe

hi! My problem appears only on few of our company's computers. We have an application which among others it copies a file from one directory to another. The issue is that for some reason in two computers (win 2000 and XP Pro) it calls cmd.com (16 bit) instead of cmd.exe.

Any thought????

It calls .com before .exe because of the alpahbetical listing delete or
rename the cmd.com and the cmd.exe will still work.
