Harddisk is presently FAT32 8Kb cluster size

any software to change it to 4 Kb before converting to NTFS

or should I convert to NTFS and look for software to change the clsuter
size, if this is available

Just one warning, once SP2 is applied any NTFS cluster change
outside of the 4K Default will not boot. You can however change
the system partition cluster size while at SP1, Apply SP2 and it
will continue to work with the non-default size clusters.
I went through this with MS, it's a verified "Bug" but won't get a
Hotfix since not enough customers have filled reports on it.
The cluster size issue will result in a Disk I/O failure at the start of
the boot sequence.
It shouldn't be an issue, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Hi,

You have to align the partition before converting to make sure you get 4k
clusters. Otherwise, you will end up with 51

Hi,

You have to align the partition before converting to get 4k clusters.
Otherwise you will end up with 512 byte ones. You don't need to change the
cluster size before converting. Read this:

Since before performing a conversion from FAT32 to NTFS or using a 3rd
party software to make the conversion or adjust cluster sizes you should
really backup your data anyway, the best way IMO is to simply backup the
data on the FAT32 partition, reformat it as NTFS, then restore the data.
