Cluster Networks best network fault tolerance?

Hi,

I have a controversy with my colleague.
We are installing an HP cluster.
This cluster has a dual port network card embedded.
We bought an extra card for increasing f. tolerance.
He says:
"In case of damage of 1 port of the NIC embedded, the heartbeat traffic will
be send on the public network. The public network will be implemented by the
teaming between 1 port of the embedded card and the extra network card.
The private network will be implemented by the other port of the embedded
port."

I reply that in case of damage all traffic (public/private) will be relayed
through the SAME port! Microsoft do not support this,
right?(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;258750#appliesto)

Moreover, the embedded card is risky because the 2 port relies on it.
I suggest to by another card, but He says that isn't necessary.

What do You suggest?

Thanks

Tony

No,...you don't team it that way. You team the duel-ports as a "team" and
run the extra Nic on the other network by itself.

Nic Teaming means that both ports on the Nic will be in the same network.
The Public Network should be on its own Nic. You could do the same with
three single port Nics,...it is the same thing,...the two that are "teamed"
are always on the same network together.
