When I shut down or hibernate, then boot up again, my clock continues from
the time of shut down. Why is this? I do not have service pack 1 or 2
installed. I then have to syncronize the clock every time I log on which is
very annoying. Help!

Replace your CMOS battery. Get at LEAST SP1 and critical security pathes
on that thing, too. It doesn't have anything to do with your clock problem.

It's not a software problem at all. You need to replace the cmos battery on
your motherboard. The battery keeps the clock going when the computer is
turned off.
Also download and install sp2.

The battery on your motherboard is failing and needs to be
replaced. Fortunately, it's cheap (a couple of dollars) and easy.

Before removing the old battery, go into the BIOS setup program
and record all the settings there. You may lose them and have to
reenter them after replacing the battery. You usually have a few
minutes with the battery out before losing the settings, but it's
not wise to rely on it.

I do not have service pack 1
or 2 installed.

This has nothing to do with the clock or the battery, but you're
playing with fire here. If you don't keep up with service packs
and critical updates, you have all kinds of unnecessary security
exposures.
