clipboard wont paste

I have the items on the clipboard to paste. Use it often but it will not
paste today.
 
in excel?
in excel, the clipboard is cleared as soon as the cells (or selection)
is de-selected (the marching ants disappear).........
AFAIK.
maybe you know something i don't?
