Clipboard file format &compression

I am having difficulty with image size when copying from a photo organizing
application (Ctrl-C) and pasting into another application. My thought (from
another discussion forum) is that the copy function creates a bitmap image in
the windows clipboard, which, when pasted into the other application, is
compressed at a lower rate, creating a file size larger by about a factor of
10! My files in this application program are getting too large, as they
contain many photos. Is there a way to customize the clipboard to compress
the images? Some other way around this?

I don't want to have to take intermediate steps such as copy to paint or do
file locate and then paste, as these would defeat the efficiency of USING a
photo organizing program.

I am using XP Pro 2002 with SP-2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The specific programs I am using are Picasa (gasp - the competition!) to COPY
FROM and an appraisal software program (ACI) to PASTE TO.

The CTRL-C keyboard combinations depends on the application that you are
using as a programmer can trap keystrokes and make a program function
differently with them. For example if you are in Windows Explorer (or a
folder view) and you press CTRL-C on a file you copy the file path.
Pasting then "copies" the file to the other location. Likewise, if you
perform the keystrokes on a image that is open or a selection of text,
that object (OLE object) is copied to the clipboard. As far as I know
there is no limit on the clipboard's buffer size. There may be one on
the software you are using.

I suggest that you use the Picasa import feature and import the file(s)
from the drive folder.
http://tinyurl.com/mbzmo ACI may also have an import feature.
