clipboard clears on WORD open

In my WORD 2002 (XP), when WORD opens/starts, it clears the clipboard. If I have highlighted and copied something from another window (like from the web or an EXCEL cell content), and then I open WORD where I want to paste (ctrl-V), all I get is a "v" in WORD. But if the do ctrl-c after WORD is open, and then I do ctrl-V in the WORD window, it pastes just fine. I don't want WORD to clear the clipboard when it starts up. How can I change or customize WORD to act like in other Office versions (2000, 97, etc.) and leave clibpboard content alone?

It's usually a badly-designed add-in that clears the clipboard when Word
starts up. Remove yours in turn and test them. Someone recently reported
some OCR software 'Office
Express
As the source. Norton Anti-Virus Add-in has been identified as causing some
problems, though perhaps not this one.

The Works add-in is a common culprit for this behaviour.

I had the same frustration and determined that it was the Works Suite add-in
that was the culprit. I was advised to uninstall it. But I decided to just
remember to load Word before I do any copying from the Web or other
applications.
