click top right boxes and wrong things happen

Hi,

I just bought a new laptop last week so I'm not sure if this error is vista
or the laptop. When I click on, for example, the top right boxes (minimize
etc), the wrong command happens. Sometimes the window maximizes instead of
minimizing or clicking on one window has an effect on another window that's
open. I'd say this happens about 70-80% of the time. It' annoying! Is there
anything I can do about it?

Thanks!

I think he's blaming you for being a sloppy clicker.
Do you have aero turned on? If so when you rest your mouse pointer over the
minimize, maximize or close window buttons do you see the button light up?
That should tell you when your mouse is placed correctly before clicking. If
you're new to laptop touch pads mousing around can be a bit tricky.

Thanks for explaining, Dan. The thing is that it really isn't my fault. I've
been using the touch pad for plenty of years and never had this problem.
Sometimes when I am clicking on one window, a completely different window
responds with a random action, while the window I was clicking on doesn't do
anything. Also, sometimes if I click on a link in a window (say, in the
middle of the window), the window minimizes or restores down. That's got
nothing to do with me being sloppy with the pointer!

I'm guessing that no one else had has this problem...

You didn't say if you tried the mouse-over experiment.
And you say this problem only occurs sometimes. I would try to nail down a
pattern for when it happens and when it doesn't.
A guess... might have something to do with focus. Which window has focus.
Alt-Tab Tab can cause strange behavior.

Hi!

Thanks again. I do have aero turned on, yes. There's no pattern to when the
commands have random actions. I guess I'll just have to live with it.

Thanks for helping!
