click on numbers some are shaded gray others are not

When I click on my numbers most of them turn gray. Some do not. It appears
to be related to style format? How do I correct?? HELP
 
THere doesn't seem to be enough information in your original posting. What
version of Word are you running and can you be very specific with your
problem?
 
You might be wasting your time, Sammy... This is a duplication of an earlier

It sounds like the numbers that are shaded gray are field code results,
rather than actual numbers. Press Alt+F9 to toggle between field codes and
field code results.

The gray shading will not show up when the document is printed. It's there
only to help you see that some text is really field code results, rather
than actual text. How field results are displayed is controlled by Tools -
Options - View - Field Shading.
