Clearing Search Engine Query

How do I go about clearing search engine queries from
previous searches that pop up when I type in the first
letter of a file I am looking for? I don't want my search
engine to save all previous queries....but I cannot
delete them. I hope someone has the answer to this
question...I would appreciate any help I can get.
