Cleanmgr.exe (Disk Cleanup) not functioning

S

Sean Tucker

When I try to use the disk cleanup utility included with
Windows by right clicking my hard drive icon and choosing
properties, then disk cleanup, the program starts the
process, but then stalls after after 3 or 4 dots on the
progress bar. The status says calculating... and
Scanning Compressed files. I have left it in this state
for over an hour with no additional movement of the
status bar. Has anyone else experienced this problem.
Is there a way to reinstall this program? Side notes:
Virus scan comes up clean, and I was able to defrag the
drive although this last time took the defrag longer than
normal. The drive is 120 GB (100 used in partition) and
has about 20 GB used.

Thanks The fix from kellys-korner worked... its a bit
scary cuz the files there do not give much detail toi
what they do, but his one worked... as for the MS link,
its stil lamazes me how poor there search engine is, cuz
my search on the ms support site matched what i would
consider keywords, I don't know if that fix works or if
that fix is th esame as kellys, but kellys worked all
good.. .thx again.

Okay Guys. I got this downloaded, but how do I get it to
run? I'm not very computer savvy, but I'm trying to feel
my way through. All help appreciated.

Thanks,
Clairebelle

Greetings

Just click on the file on Kelly's site, save it to your hard drive, then
double click it.

If it's a *.REG file, double click to run it. Answer "yes" to merge the
info to your registry. Click OK to dismiss the "success" dialog. Done.
