Cleaning Up PC

Hi, have just bought a second hand PC running Windows XP and am a bit worried about what might have been stored on it in the past. (You hear such horror stories about people taking machines in for repair and dubious illegal files being found). I was given a cd which will restore factory settings and, as I have cds to reload the software I need, am intending to run the restore. The question is – will these delete any unwanted files or is it possible they could still lurk somewhere on the machine and come back to haunt me in the future? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

A restore/recovery cd will format the drive and install xp and programs
clean. Just like it came from the factory.
