Cleaning up after Linux

C

Chris

Somehow I got a corrupted hard drive after trying to remove Linux.
I had a primary partition and then an extended partition containing the
Linux partitions.
Fdisk wouldn't delete the Linux partitions.
What can be done?

Hi Chris,

Boot your Linux media, use it to remove the ext and swap partitions. Do not
use fdisk for anything. After, boot into WinXP and use disk manager
(start/run diskmgmt.msc) to create partitions with the free space. If XP is
not installed yet, boot the XP CD and start the installation, you can delete
the remaining existing partitions, create a new one and begin installing
this way.

You can use disk manager to delete such Linux partitions too. I prefer
to start from Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management, select
Disk Management and look lower right for the graphic of the drive.
There right click the partition and take Delete Logical Volume (the only
action it will allow). It will say it was not created by windows and
may contain data from other OSes - are you sure? (You are)
