clean upgrade to xp from 98

I have a windows 98 machine with two hard drives (9G primary, 40G
secondary). The second hard drive has two partitions, one to win98,
one unused.

I want to install XP on the unused partition, in a dual boot fashion.

Then I would like to install applications in XP, and copy any data,
configurations, etc, for those applications from the win98 partitions
to the XP OS.

Finally, I would like to remove the 9G hard drive.

Is this doable? Is it a good plan for installing XP? Has anyone done
this?

All comments are appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Joe Costantini

Microsoft recommends each OS be put on seperate disks,
not seperate partitions,dont remove the 9mb drive,set
it to use as a page file for xp.Theres not much xp needs
from 98,about the only thing youd miss from upgradeing
is java virtual machine. That you might!
