Hi! I am not sure this is the proper forum for this but I have a really
simple question. How can you clean the tracks from visiting certain (!)
internet sites? I know about erasing the cookies but as I understand it there
is much more to it.. Also if you have once typed in an internet address in
the netscape browser it keeps coming up when you type soemthing similar. How
do you erase that? Any help (links etc) is very much appreciated! Thanks alot
in advance! Oh and happy new year soon

Well, if you can explain another person why visiting certain sites,
there is no need to clean any tracks. ;)

Netscape 7.1/7.2: Menu item "Edit" > Preferences > History. Note that
Netscape will clear the entire history rather than certain sites only,
however, I did not dig too deep into that issue.
Any help (links etc) is very much appreciated!

well it is nice to know that you live in the free world but please send a
thought to those of us that are not.

ROFL! You' posting via the "Sveriges Riksbank". Doesn't Sweden
belong to the free world?
but please send a thought to those of us that are not.

Actually, I did.

Perhaps the OP was trying to hide the sites where he/she shopped for Christmas from the spouse or
child?

Down-load ccleaner from www.ccleaner.com. This little program will clean out the internet history
and the list of typed URLs.

Index.dat are files hidden on your computer that contain all of the Web
sites that you have ever visited. Every URL, and every Web page is listed
there. Not only that but all of the email that has been sent or received
through Outlook or Outlook Express is also being logged. The file names and
locations depend on what version of Internet Explorer you have. If you are
running IE version 4.0 or above, the file name is "index.dat". Microsoft
has not supplied an adequate explanation as to what these files are for or
why they have been hidden so well.

This might be useful?

Oh yeah. Sounds better to me than surfing the sites of the "Cayman
Islands business (banking) directory" from his desk. ;)

To erase from the casual user all you have to do is delete your cookies, and
open your browser, select View>History - then right click the site and
delete.

To erase all local records, you'll have to recreate that Index.dat file,
which may require formatting your hard drive and reinstalling everything, or
maybe copying everything to another drive before using the site and
restoring your drive after using the site (while not running Windows on that
drive). It might allow you to overwrite your index.dat file if you switch
your Windows drive to secondary and boot to another drive.

To erase all records, you would need access to your ISP's server, and
possibly any other server the site gets routed through..
