Clean Install

Hi all,

What's the best way to perform a clean install on my
laptop? Is fdisk still the way to go? Or does the XP
install disk do this for you?

Thanks in advance,
Rodney

Well XP can do this for you.

if you have the operating system CD insert it in the drive.
start the Laptop.

you's see a blue screen when the CD detects you hardware
and then wen you see the screen where the CD asks for
repeir or just install.

next for the agreement.it asks where you want to install
the operatinng system here.delete the existing partitions,
create new and you can install the OS.

this will do a fresh installation.

cantact me for more information.

note this is brand specific like COMPAQ has Quick restore
CD for OS installation.
HP has recovery CD etc.
so the brand of your laptop also can make a difference.

thank you

When you delete the exiting partitions, HIT F3 TWICE AND REBOOT.

That will keep Setup from holding an entry in the boot.ini file for the
old OS.

Takes a minute more but saves at least that in the following week. 8)

"That will keep Setup from holding an entry in the

What is the problem with this?

Thanks,

The problem is that if you remove the partition holding Win2000, for
example, you couldn't boot into that OS if you wanted to. It will just
return nasty errors. The old OS is gone. And you have to wait 30
seconds or hit return to boot XP every time your machine powers up.

I just prefer not having to manually modify boot.ini or the time value
on the OS selection screen. Hitting F3 twice and waiting for a reboot
is a better solution for me. Saves me a good chunk of time in the long
run. And it keeps me from answering calls from users who tried to boot
into 2000. I can hear it now: "But it SAID I could load 2000 if I
wanted to!".

FWIW.
