I have never install xp by myself, I intend to give it a
try as my OS seems to get corrupted as some of the
program is missing in add/remove. Could any one kindly
tell me the step to do a clean install? Do I need to plug
out all the devices like printer, modem? Do I need to do a
partition or format like window 98 does or is it the
partition could be done in win xp CD itself? After
installing the OS, what is the next step? should I
install microsoft office first or download sp1 first or
all the drivers for the devices? Should I used the CD
driver that comes with my motherboard or the drivers from
xp?? Lastly, do I need to activate window xp again and
what about microsoft office? Sorry for all these question
as I'm a newbie in this area....... :P

Watcha!

Lots of questions and so little time!

A couple of things to get you going:

1. Save any data to CD or Floppy taht you may later regret that you didn't
save. Emails, documents, spreadsheets etc.
2. Ensure your PC is set to Boot from CD in the BIOS, turn off PC
3. Insert Windows XP CD and turn computer on
4. Windows Setup starts after you have pressed 'any' key when prompted to
boot from CD
5. During the first part of setup you can choose what partition to install
to and whether you want to delete partitions and stuff like that. To do a
clean install it would be best to delete the partition you want to install
to. You will then be prompted to format the partition when you have chosen
to install Windows in that partition.
6. The rest is plain sailing as they say er...welll...you know what I mean
;-)
7. You might try installing without some of your hardware attached.
suggestion only.
8. Get yourself updated (service packs and patches) ASAP, you wouldn't want
to get caught by the Blaster virus would you?
9. Set a System Restore Point and then think about other software such as
Office

Hope this helps to get the thinking cogs going at least...

Jaybee :-)

Hi, I leave everything connected, set the bios to boot from the CDROM,
restart with my xp disc in the drive, XP setup then runs through the set up
which is fairly automated, it will ask for any drivers it needs. You will
not need a partition for a basic install.
I then load a Intel accelerator, which is for my M.Board) I then I go to the
windows update. Then I load all my programs. This works for me, Wright or
wrong, it seems to work OK.
Don't forget you will loose all your data on the computer-so back up first!
Hope this helps.
