clean install of xp

I did a clean install of xp does that mean if i had any viruses on my pc
before they would of been deleted with the clean install of xp

If you truly did a 'clean' install, meaning you blew away your existing
partition, recreated it, formatted & installed XP from scratch, then yes,
anything on that disk would be pretty much gone. What makes you ask?
 
A clean install requires that the hard drive or partition be formatted.
During the format everything is wiped from the drive/partition. If you
formatted the drive/partition then yes the virus has been removed, if you
didn't format the drive then chances are the virus is still there.

Since your virus type was non-specific, need to spell something out. A mbr
area of hard disk virus is not affected by partition formats. Recreating
the partition doesn't affect it either, just the pointer in the mbr itself.
The only way to kill this beast is to write zeroes to the drive with the HD
mfrs utility. These type are few, and unlikely to exist on your hard drive.

In theory yes, but not if you have a boot sector virus.
