Clean Boot Disc

I have a virus that evidently is embedded in the platform
under XP and loads prior to Windows. Running virus
detection in Safe Mode doesn't find it. I am told I need
to make a clean boot disc. I don't know how to do that.
I also don't know what to do with it once I've made it.

I have Win XP Professional with current updates and
current McAfee and Spamkiller. I delete 15 or so
infected files daily that McAfee has found and I run
Stinger in safe mode frequently.

Hi,

You don't need a clean boot disk, you need to boot an antivirus CD or floppy
set (write-protected) and scan the system with it. Most antivirus vendors
provide for this in their software, you should check with them for proper
instructions. You then boot the system with this and run a scan on the
system. This way the antivirus software is unaffected by any resident
nasties (many of which disable or hamstring the software to keep it from
detecting and cleaning it off). They don't load as Windows is not being
loaded, and if it's the boot sector that is infected, you will be able to
cleanse this as well.
