Choose Profile Error

Outlook 2000 is set to choose profile upon launching the program. If email
has been idle for a while, it will not give me the choose profile prompt. It
shows a white Icon in the task bar, and the program stops responding. The
only cure is to click shutdown/Log off and go right back in with the same
login. The issue goes away until I exit Outlook for an extended period of
time.

Any suggestions on a cure?

My guess is that Outlook is actually still running. Use Task Manager's
Processes tab to see. I'll be you find another outlook.exe process there
even after you think you've closed Outlook.
 
Brian, that appears to be the case. Anyway you know of to make the normal
"X" actually exit and log off?
 
That Helps, Brian and it appears to be the case. Is there a way to get
Outlook to totally Exit and Log off using the good old fashion X in the
corner?
 
Choosing exit and log off doesn't help. when I get the error, I can go to
task manager and end Outlook.exe process but the problem still occurs until I
log off and back on to windows.

What's next?
 
Thanks Again, Brian. The one thing the slipstick site may have confirmed
that I have thought this was related to Norton Antivirus and Internet
Security Software causing problems. Right now, I am evaluating the shutdown
program addin and will see what it does.

Thoughts right now are to switch virus and firewall software when the
current subscription ends. Something has got to be more user friendly than
Norton. Brain Surgery is easier to understand than their software.

Whatever you decide to so with regard to antivirus programs, you will have
far fewer problems if you always disable mail scanning in the AV program (or
just not install that part in the first place). Let the on-access scanner
handle it.
