Chnaging Fonts on a power Point Slide

I have Windows XP on my IBM Think Pad.

Whenever I use the think pad connected to our company
server I am able to use Power point successfully, however
when I switch to island mode of operation I am unable to
to do the following

1. Change the font in the power point slide
2. Change the size of the font in the slide

When I attempt to do so the application gives a message
saying that Power Point has found an error - Please close
the application!!!
Can anyone help

Do you have a printer installed locally? You don't actually have to have
one available, but you need to have one installed or else PPT won't work.
