OK, here we go.
I ran chkdsk c: /v /f and answered Y to check at boot time then restarted
the machine.
Then I opened cmd.exe via a shortcut on my desktop.

First run it says I have to fix errors with /f.
At no time does it say no errors found.
The minor inconsistencies didn't go away.
O&O Defrag won't defrag because chkdsk tells it there is a problem even
though it tells me there isn't.
Hope thats enough info
Can you post the exact text of chkdsk. This is not a problem if it says
"Removing Unused Security Descriptor". It's simply removing the security
settings for deleted files that had custom security settings. They don't
delete when the file is deleted. This is normal.

I start chkdsk from the command prompt with chkdsk /v
Chkdsk reports "minor inconsistancys" that are "not corruption".
It displays problems in file 9 relating to $SII and $SDH. (Whatever that
is).
It then says to run chkdsk with /f to repair errors.
I run chkdsk /f and restart machine but after rebooting the errors are still
there.
I use O&O defrag with the chkdsk option turned on and it also sees these
errors.
Nortons disk doctor doesn't fix them either.
I have disk write caching turned off, as suggested by microsoft, as I am
using NTFS.
I have backed up, formatted drive and restored backup as also suggested by
microsoft.
Still no joy.
I think I should have stuck with FAT 32. Never had a problem with taht FS.
LOL.
TIA

Start/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt/ type "chkdsk c: /f" (less
quotation marks) (be sure there is a space between the last k and the /) [c
is the volume (disk) to be checked, replace the c with whatever your drive
is labeled if different from c] at
the blinking cursor and press the keyboard Enter key. This will run the
error correcting portion of the Check Disk Tool.
You appear confused! The /v parameter of Check Disk only displays cleanup
messages if any (in the Windows XP NTFS file system). Give more info. How
exactly are you starting the Check Disk tool and with which parameters?
For a list of all parameters for the Check Disk Tool, Start/All
Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt/type in "chkdsk /?" and hit the Enter
key.

Hi all I'm new to this so please be patient.
When I run CHKDSK it always tells me it found errors and to run it
with /f. When run with /v it always says about errors in $SDH and
$SII.
I have searched the microsoft site to the best of my ability but the
only reference I can find refers to windows 2000.
I'm out of ideas so I ask the experts. (Suck suck).

Any ideas?
