I am getting a strange message when trying to run chkdsk
first off it is running each time windows boots, then
quits part way through with "an unspecified error has
occured" then it boots normally before that.
As well just before that the message
badly linked attribute records appears saying from file
record segment 34595
I tried a search of knowledge base with no luck
anyone seen this before?
any suggestions
XP Pro SP2, and all updates done

You need to run CHKDSK /F to repair the file errors. Run CHKDSK /F, answer
Yes to run at next startup, then reboot and let it run. You can also run
CHKDSK /R after booting to the XP CD if you still get errors. Backup your
personal files just in case your hard drive is failing and not fixable.

You may have a bad hard drive. Download a diagnostic utility from the
drive mftr.'s website. Normally you will make a bootable floppy with
it. Boot with the utility and run a thorough test. If the drive has
errors, replace it.
