Try run,type:cmd In cmd type:CHKDSK C: Then:CHKDSK C: /F
Or,boot to xp cd,recovery,in recovery type:CHKDSK C: /p

Have you used an alternative utility provided by a third party like
Norton? These can locking the drive preventing access.

no XP cd avaiable, didnt recieve one
i am familiar with how to initiate a chkdisk thru dos, my problem is
for it to execute, any ideas on how to create one simply would be
great, seemingly this is no mean feat. a XP boot disk would solve A LOT
of my problems................ format is a word that has been in my mind
