chk dsk stops : unspecified error can't run defragment

I just recently had to do a full system recovery , and when i try to run chk
dsk it stops midway saying : unspecified error I am stuck any suggestions, I
run windows xp, there was a solution for windows 2000, but not xp ? thanks
 
Try going to run,type:cmd In cmd type:CHKDSK C: This is read only,
If it runs ok,type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart,then type:EXIT Restart
computer.
