Reading between the lines it looks as though China got the right hump with MS stopping support for XP which is still widely used in that land and are giving the finger to MS because of that in the form of snubbing Win 8.

Yes, precisely. I think had MS kept supporting XP then China would have started purchasing Win 8.
Which makes MS mugs, it wouldn't have taken much manpower to support XP just for China and the potential for sales of Win 8 there are enormous. MS have shot themselves in the foot methinks.
Nevermind whether we like or dislike Win 8, this is a sales thing.
