why not a scheduled task to play a sound from C:\windows\media\ folder
every 30 min....
This would require no extra software!

I have come across these "chime clock" applications but none is
really very satisfactory. If there are any other recommended ones
then I too would like to know.

WorldTime
does much more than you ask but has good range of chime options
http://www.pawprint.net/wt/

dyTransparentAlarmClock
hourly chimes only

Umi Clock
30 or 60 minute chimes - not the 'neatest' appn

I've used WorldTime for several years now. A tip: for me, an older
version (5.5.2.748) works better than the later one (WorldTime 6 Beta 1
or Beta 2).
