check disk

I set check disk to run on my D: drive. I restarted the system and the
system corrected an error but did not exit the report. When I reboot it goes
into the check disk again but does not find any errors. At the end the
report stays on my screen. The only way for me to be able to start windows
is to disconnect power to my D: so it is not found. I had this problem once
before and I re-installed windows to fix the problem. How do I fix it with
out re-installing windows? It does warn me at start-up and says to press any
key to go enter the scan but when I press a key nothing happens.

I was not able to find this key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\BootExecute

Instead I had to use the find function to find BootExecute and it is
actually HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Control\Session
Manager\BootExecute

and when I try to modify it it says: "autocheck autochk /r \??\D:
autocheck autochk *" without the ""
so if I understand what I need to do, I need to remove everything from the
first " mark to and including the : this would leave autocheck autochk *

Does anyone know if this is the correct procedure?
