Check Disk will not complete

When I run my Check Disk utility, it gets through Phase 1 and 2 then it says
it is unable to complete disc check. When I check the two boxes on the
utility, when the computer restarts to go through the checks, it doesn't
complete them but goes straight to Windows. What is problem and how can I fix
it?

You can get around this problem by using the chkdsk that's part of the
Recovery Console on the WIN XP install CD-ROM.

The recovery console is not accesable in xp with SP2 installed,only with
SP1.Also,recovery can be run by booting to xp cd.Also,how are you running
CHKDSK,in windows explorer..1st,do not chk both the boxes for the disk at
the same time,they dont run together.Forget setting it that way,simply go
to run,type:cmd In cmd type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree,type:EXIT Restart pc
