character limit for linking files

Is there a limit to the number of characters that can be linked from one file
to another? Currently, it truncates the data. Please advise.
 
If you open the sending workbook, then you'll see that the formula returns the
whole string.

With the sending workbook closed, you'll only see 255 characters.

I don't know any other way around it.
