chaning drive letters in XP

I have figured out how to change drive letters in XP. I partitioned the
disk prior to installation but after installing XP Pro two paritions's
letter were interchanged. Now I want to make D: as E: and vice versa.

I guess it would be:
1) Change D: to z:
2) e: to d:
3) z: to e:

right?

Secondly, does chaning drive letters have any effect on the partition
table of the disk? Or is the change solely for the Win OS only and does
nothing to the MRB or to the partition table?

thanks,

A. 1. Follow your guess, it's as good as any way to achieve the result.

A. 2. Changes to drive letters don't affect disk management: XP does have a
'record' of drive letter in the MBR but not as it would cause operational
issues in the renaming of disk. You cannot change the Drive Letter for
System Disk or C Drive.

Be careful when changing drive letter as it may prevent applications from
running if the were installed in your current D and E. The registry entries
will reflect the installation location [say D Drive] and of course if the
drive letter is changed the application won't be found in the renamed drive
[now E Drive], unless you move the folder to the new D Drive.

That shouldn't be a problem because d: and e: haven't been touched yet;
they haven't been used at all. I want to make this change before we
start using them due to very reasons you have mentioned above.
