Changing XP environment parameter %USERPROFILE%

I'm trying to move the location of the profile defaults
(My Documents, etc) to a different hard drive. The
registry key uses the %USERPROFILE% variable, which
equates to C:\Documents and Settings\"User. How do I
change the environment variable %USERPROFILE% to point to
drive d:?

You don't. You just put your path in. You're moving it from the usersprofile.

d:\my folder

You can just drag the folder to a new location and windows fixes up the registry.
