Changing Windows edition

Currently I have Windows XP Professional version 2002 SP2 installed on my
computer. Can I install another edition (let's say Media Center Edition)
without uninstalling my current edition. If this is possible, wouldn I loose
all my installed programs and documents?

Hi

If you want to install MCE, it is probably best to perform a 'clean'
install. If you want to also keep SP2, you will have to install MCE onto a
different partition.

You can setup your system to dual-boot both versions of Windows. To
do this, you'll need to create a second partition on your hard drive.
Windows cannot do this for you, so you'll need some third-party
software such as PartitionMagic.

Once you create the second partition, boot from the CD for Windows MCE
and install it as you would normally. On the screen that asks you
where you want to install, pay close attention. You want to install
to the partition you created which is probably NOT going to be the one
that is selected by default, so be careful and make sure you are
choosing the right one.

After installation is complete, you will, at each boot, be prompted to
choose which version you wish to boot to. The data, programs,
documents, etc. on your XP Pro install will not be effected by
dual-booting and you will have access to them from both versions of
Windows.

You can not normally buy MCE 2005 editiion as a retail product. It needs to
be sold with a new PC that meets the requirements.

Media Center is an OEM product. Like other OEM products, you can
buy it only with qualifying hardware. That qualifying hardware
could be a new PC, but doesn't have to be.
