Changing title bar size for inactive and active window

Does anyone know whether there exists a utility to *remove* the title
bar of an existing window? I know that it is possible to create a
window without title bar, but I am interested in removing the title
bar of an existing window.

Sometimes I need several small windows in parallel, which get updated
regularily - this could be a "tail" application, it could be a Firefox
window
etc. I can arrange these tiny windows side by side, but all the title
bars
take away much screen space.
