changing the i386 folder location

A

~~Alan~~

I would like to do two things relating to the \i386 folder

1) I would like to copy the i386 folder to my HDD and then have the system
reference that folder instead of asking for the CD when I want to add a
component.

2) I would like to install/copy the installation CD to a HDD and perform an
clean install from that location.

thanks,
~alan

Download and install TweakUI for Windows XP.

TweakUI is available from

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp (SP1 and later systems)

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/downloads/powertoys.asp (Pre SP1 systems)

In the My Computers, Special Folders section, you can change the Installation Path.

To install from your hard disk, you will need a Win98/Me boot disk, and the partition you want to install to must be FAT or FAT32, as the Startup diskette will not recognize an NTFS partition.
