Hi I was wondering if anyone has experienced a problem when trying to change
the desktop background from a plain colour to any other type of image? I
noticed the background was simply black one day when the day before I had a
family photo loaded. Personalisation goes perfectly even up to the point of
selecting the image I want then after the choice is made........nothing
happens. All I can do is change the colour of the background, that's it! Very
frustrating. Any ideas?

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

If that does not work, try doing a System Restore

I have seen this before on a domain, it was a corrupt profile,

try using another profile/login to see if all works ok & then if possible
delete "old" profile

What do you want to change it to?
Have you right clicked a blank spot on the desktop and selected Personalize?

your search"

I'm not sure what you've done but you can try this --it sometimes helps.

Hi Bill/Chrisy too wherever her post is--

I'm not sure what you all have done but try this--it sometimes fixes this:

To restore the ability to change the desktop Wallpaper in your system,
download the file wallpaper_enable.reg for Windows 2000/XP/Vista systems,
and save the file to your Desktop. Right-click wallpaper_enable.reg and
choose Merge to apply the settings.

The REG file removes the Wallpaper Policy setting from the following
registry locations

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Policies \ System
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Policies \ System
Windows Vista specific setting

Click Start, Control Panel, Ease of Access, Ease of Access Center.

Under Make things on the screen easier to see, deselect the option:

Remove background images (where available).
Select Save.

You should be able to change the desktop background now.

Good luck,

CH

Have you tried opening your image in IE or FF and setting it that way?
