changing the default cell format

How can I change the default cell alignment to be centered
vertically, instead of the defaulted bottom vertically?

You can create a template with your required formatting and save it in the
XLStart folder as book.xlt.

But how do I do that? i mean what do you mean by creating

Start a new workbook.
Change the settings the way you want.

File|Save As
At the bottom of that dialog is a Save As Type: box.

Template (*.xlt) is not too far from the top.

But watch out, the folder changed when you weren't looking.

(Use Windows start button|Search (or Find) to find you XLStart folder.)
