I want to change the color of the text for the desktop shortcuts from white
to another color. Can this be done in WinXP or do I need a 3rd party
program?

Thanks,
Newtechie

Change it in Control Panel-Display-Appearance tab-Advanced-Desktop

Hi Alan, I think that only changes the color of the desktop background. I'm
looking to change the color of text for the shortcut icons.

Oops! Sorry, I misread your post completely.
That's my senior moment for the day gone.

In all versions of Windows, Microsoft provides no way to change the color of
the text under desktop icons, which can make it very difficult to read in
some circumstances. In Windows XP, the text has a shadow underneath, but this
only goes so far. To change the font, open Display Properties in Control
Panel, choose the Appearance tab (then click Advanced in Windows XP only),
and choose Icon from the Item menu.

But not to worry. Here is a tool that can help you to accomplish this. Find
it here:

Hope this help, let us know!

How about a "Single Key" as a shortcut? No combination like CTRL, ALT, and
SHIFT required.

Use your Num Pad keys while defining a shortcut.

Thanks Raj for the link! I'll look into it.
