This is probably reeeeaaaally simple, but how do I change to another screen
eg a Word Document while I am in the middle of a presentation without closing
and then having to go back.

Try alt + tab

In 2003 on you can also use ctrl + T to bring up the toolbar and use that to
swap programs

Hi John, tried that and it brings up the ppt program only, then back to
presentation. That is a help though because then I can work on slides and
go back to presentation without starting again. Any further ideas for
rotating to other open windows? I have Office XP.

Word file is open, and excel, but just cycles between ppt presentation and
ppt program

Open the document in Word first, then use Alt+Tab to switch back and forth.

You could also add an action to launch the file on pretty much anything you can
draw in PPT.

You need to HOLD DOWN alt and press tab repeatedly. Don't let go of alt
between presses.

Make sense (maybe not as I'm on my third Cabernet Sauvignon!)
