changing property of a field from text to general number

Having done a crosstab query, the field Total Of
Quantity: Nz(Sum([ACTIVITY QUERY (1)].Quantity),0)
formats as text. When I go to run a report which sorts
by Total of Quantity, it sorts likes text (1,13,2,24,3,
etc..). How can I change it from text to a general
number so I get 1,2,3,13,24, etc..?
