Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have a NT4.0 domain with Windows XP
proffessional clients. The problem is the clients are not allow to change
their password even thought they admin. rights on their respected client.
The following error is displayed: The password on this account cannot be
changed at this time.
Thank you for help.

First thought here is whether the computers are full domain-members, or just
clients of the server. The password-change utility only works for full
domain-member computers.

It's also possible that a policy has been set disallowing remote
password-changes.

Check their user accounts in the domain to make sure that they are not
configured so that user can not change password in user account properties.
Also the PDC must be available to the user to change their password as that
is the only server that can update domain accounts. Make sure that you can
ping the PDC from the domain computers by IP and name. Since NT4.0 uses
netbios over tcp/ip to locate domain controller make sure that wins is used
in the domain, that the PDC is a wins client, and that all the XP Pro
computers are wins clients also. Verify that the PDC shows in the wins
database as PDC. If they can not change their password at a password expired
prompt see if a user can change their password after logging onto the
domain. The support tool netdiag when run on the XP Pro computer may show
helpful information such as if dc discovery is working and if secure
channel/trust is good. --- Steve
