Changing Music file in PPT Presentation

T

Talon

I am using PP 2003. I received a PPS that has music playing nicely
through out the entire presentation except when it gets to the last
slide it shuts off abruptly. I think it could be faded out and needs
to have the sound file edited.
NOW... I cant find a way to extract the sound file from the
presentation and thus can't edit it. There is no speaker icon on the
first slide as I expected to find it. Where is the file and how do I
extract it for editing? This was not on a CD just a download from the
web so I am sure it is embeded somewhere.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The sound icon is either hidden (covered up with another object) or it's
possibly been dragged off the slide into the gray area. Reduce your zoom to 33%
and see whether you can find it. Press the tab key multiple times. Each tab
will select an object on the slide. If you don't see anything on the slide
selected then look off the slide. Once you find it, right click it and select
Edit Sound Object and it will tell you whether it is included in the file.

To extract an embedded WAV file you'll have to save the presentation as a Web
Page and then sort through the files in the folder that is created. Look for a
file with a WAV file extension.

What Sonia said, but it may be buried in a slide transition, so you
won't see the speaker icon.

Sonia,
It wasn't in the gray area and not under something else. I saved it as
a web page and it only showed up as one file and I couldn't open it
unless it I ran the file and there was nothing else in the folder with
it. I guess I should give up.
I do appreciate the fine help ya'll have given me. I know I can
usually find an expert in this forum willing to help. I admire your
collective knowledge base and your willingness to assist yoyo's like
me.
Thanks again,

Dave,
Thanks for your suggestion. I looked in the transistions and didn't
see anything there. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right place.

Thanks,

Talon

Dave,
I take it back. I found it in Transistions but now how would I extract
or edit it?

Don't give up. You're very close. When you save as Web Page make sure that you
select HTM/HTML as the file type, NOT MHT/MHTML. The latter is why you got a
single file. Please try it again. When you save as Web Page (HTM) PowerPoint
will create a folder and a file. Look in the folder for the WAV file.

Sonia and Dave,
Thank you for the education. I have succeeded with my quest. I can
edit and work with the sound file now.
Ya'll are great.
