Changing layout of slide

I have a user who is working with someone else's original work. A slide
layout was not chosen. My user would like to apply a slide layout to the
text. Is this possible?
 
If I understand your problem (I may not) you could apply the a layout to the
slide. Select text (maybe using TAB repeatedly if its now hidden) and paste
into the appropriate placeholder
