changing IP adress

Same way you would change any IP address, really.

First - the service provinding the IP address has to be configured.. If you
control the router handing out the IPs - you configure this according to
your router's instructions - if you cannot find them - visit their web
page - they keep the manuals up there too.

Second - you configure your computer to use that static IP (or if you have
configured your router to give out a certain IP by MAC address - you just
insure your computer is set to use DHCP.)

Done.

What is it you are trying to do, exactly?

What I am trying to do is make it so I can use remote assistance. The error
message comes up with "The connection could not be established, Please try
again"

I need to change the IP adress of the email. Your information is to hard to
understand.

You cannot answer a question that was never actually asked.
You really need to give a lot more details - because now it is more
confusing as to what you are trying to do.

You never mentioned that you had an email with a remote assistance request
attachment and you needed to edit that remote assistance request to change
the IP to the Public IP of the router so that (since you had already
obviously forwarded the port on the router to the machine in question on the
private network) you could connect to the router and be forwarded to the
machine inside the private network. If that doesn't make sense - then you
still need to come up with a better description of what you are trying to
do.

If someone was to email you a "Remote Assistance" requests and they were on
a private network (behind a Cable/DSL router) - that file would contain
their private IP address - the one assigned to them by the cable/dsl router
device that passes their traffic onto the Internet via the actual cable
modem or dsl modem. Therefore the Remote Assistance request file already
contains the private IP address - but that is not what you want unless you
are also behind the same router - you want the PUBLIC IP address and you
want the cable/dsl router to be configured in such a way as to forward the
request to the proper machine on the private network.

If you don't have some sort of "router" involved - then you likely have a
public IP address already and I am not sure what you need.

I originally assumed you were trying to change the IP address of your
machine - the one you were assigned by your service provider - whether that
is your own Cable/DSL modem router (Linksys, Netgear, etc.) or if you are
directly connected to the Cable Modem/DSL/Internet in some way (you would
have to request that from them (static IP)) - etc. That's all I could
assume from the depth of your original question..

"how do I change a private IP adress?"

Now you have thrown in (sort of) is "..make it so I can use remote
assistance..." Which tells me that there probably is a Cable/DSL router
involved and most of what I just said is true. You will need to edit the
Remote Assistance file before sending it out to someone to include your
public IP address (the one the router gets from your Internet Service
Provider) and also configure your router to forward the correct port to the
proper machine on your private network. You have to configure the router
(read the manual) to forward PORT 3389 to the private IP of the machine you
are trying to get remote assistance on. Then you would create the remote
assistance ticket (saving it on your machine) - edit it and change where the
"X"'s are to the public IP address of your router..

RCTICKET="65538,1,XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:3389;10.0.0.x:3389;CLIENTP
C:3389,encrypted connection info

Does any of that ring true as to what you are trying to accomplish?

If so and you don't understand it or plan to - then it may just be easier to
connect your computer directly to the modem (DSL/CABLE modem) when you need
remote assistance and get a public IP - create the remote assistance request
and email it out.

Note you can get your public IP at anytime from web pages like:
